Kitchen islands will be very useful and multi-functional for your kitchen. One of the effective ways to add a cheap kitchen island in your kitchen is re-purposing furniture in your house. You can create cheap kitchen islands by recycling some furniture such as a cabinet, a dresser, simple butcher-block ledge, a drop leaf, a sofa table, or a tall dining table, then you just paint it.

You can remake an old cabinet or dresser to be a kitchen island. With many storage, you are able to put in many kinds of glass, plates, bowls, dishtowels, and others. For remodeling butcher-block ledge, you have to find the space first. If there is no space, then you can create an enclosed minimalist island. This butcher block is very convenient because the surface will be ready for use. You can also use a sofa table as a kitchen island because usually the design of sofa table is narrow and the size is around 30”. So, a sofa table is included as a good option for you.

As for the drop leaf table, drop it down to give you more space in a small kitchen and pop it up when you need it. However, if it is impossible to add an island, then you can add a drop leaf at the end of kitchen wall. The last, a tall dining table will be a perfect island. Of course, it is perfect if the dining table is in the right proportion to be place in your kitchen. Besides, to add an extra storage, you can add hooks.
